Rome [ENA] Pope Francis has prayed for peace in the Caucasus region during his Sunday Angelus address. He said he was happy for the humanitarian ceasefire between the two countries, urging them to accomplish concrete deeds of goodwill and fraternity to reach a peaceful solution through dialogue. On the other side, mutual exchanges of accusations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has announced that the Azerbaijani army has attempted to violate the ceasefire agreed in Moscow by attacking the Syunik region. On the other side, Azerbaijani forces said Armenian armed forces fire rockets on Ganja which is second biggest city after Baku. In fact, today, on lo October 11, 2020, at around 2 AM midnight, the Armenian troops fired rockets on Ganja, the second largest city of Azerbaijan that is fully outside of the battlefield, in rude violation of humanitarian ceasefire. As a result, the rocket hitting the apartment building ruined it fully, and the residents of the apartment building remained under rubble.

The relevant forces of the Azeri Ministry of Emergency Situations involved in the scene immediately, rescued 17 injured people and removed 7 corpses from under the ruins heretofore.  33 personnel and 3 machineries of the Ganja Regional Centre, 25 personnel, 3 machineries and 5 specially trained dogs of the Special Risky Rescue Service, 48 personnel and 2 machineries of the Civil Defence Forces, 21 personnel and 3 machineries of the State Fire Protection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were involved in the scene.

Currently the rescue operations are underway. The Ministry of Emergency Situations operates in an enhanced mode at the moment and asks to immediately call the “112” hotline of the Ministry in case of any emergency. Nagorno Karabakh is becoming a proxy war place between Turkey and Russia, because both are powers with interests at stake and want to have influence over the area. In this case the different religion of the two fighting countries is only mask to hide the true interests of the various actors involved.
